Students' Guide to Using Zoom

Zoom Etiquette 101

Whether you're Zooming for a live-online class, meeting with an instructor during online office hours, or interacting with other College employees & students, remember that a Zoom session is an academic space. Follow these tips to make sure you are set up for a successful Zoom session every time:

  • Login to your Zoom session from a distraction-free, quiet environment.
  • Be on time for the session.
  • Use your real name (the name you are known by in class) when joining the Zoom session.
  • Zoom profile pictures and background images (if permitted by the host) should be appropriate for an academic setting.
  • Keep your microphone muted until you want to speak. This will help to limit background noise.
  • Follow the guidelines provided by your instructor or the Zoom's host regarding use of your video camera - make sure your video camera is turned on [or turned off] during the session as instructed.
  • Remember, a Zoom session is an academic space. Think before you Zoom!
