The Viking Exchange

The Viking Exchange is for SJR State students who are in need of some essential goods. Students can visit the Viking Exchange any time, no questions asked, and take what they need.

There is a Viking Exchange in each campus Library. Students are welcome to stop by the Viking Exchange any time the Library is open.

In Palatka, there is also a Viking Exchange in the Workforce Training Center.

Look for the logo!

September 11 - 15, 2023

As we Fall into Service and collect items to stock the Viking Exchange for our students in need, we thought a little competition couldn't hurt our efforts! So, we've devised a team competition - The Viking Exchange Showdown!

Here's how to play!

  1. Register your team online by the end of the day September 11. Online registration form is coming soon!

  2. Teams will be matched up based on size for a friendly competition.

  3. For each matched-up group, the team who:

  • donates the greatest variety of items from the wish list AND

  • donates the greatest weight of items

  • WINS!

  1. Teams can drop-off donations at the Library or contact a Campus Co-Captain to arrange for pick up! All donations must be received by the close of business Friday, 9/15.

  2. Winners will be announced on Monday and will be celebrated forever after! Bragging rights are the main prize, of course, but winning teams will also be awarded a token of appreciation/symbol of victory!

A few guidelines -

  • Co-Captains will measure variety by seeing if items from various categories were provided, namely:

    • Heat & Eat Meals

    • Just Add Water Meals

    • Grab & Go Snacks (granola bars, sandwich crackers)

    • Meat, Veggies, or Fruit

    • Personal Care Supplies

    • School Supplies

  • The variety of donated items within each category will be measured on a scale from Good to Fantastic with Fantastic meaning multiple kinds of items from each of the categories was donated.

    • Good: 1-3 points

    • Great: 4-6 points

    • Excellent: 7-9 points

    • Fantastic: 10 points

  • Weight

  • The total number of items donated by each team will be weighed for a grand total.

  • No mega-sizes allowed unless the items within the mega size are individually wrapped and can be distributed as smaller amounts. We're trying to serve as many students as possible! But, for counting purposes, we will divide mega-size boxes into their normal, retail equivalent number of boxes.

  • Please, no 5 gallon jugs or 5 pound cans or jars of anything ðŸ™‚

  • No beverages.

Team donations will be tallied and weighed once all of the Team's items are donated and collected. A team representative may be present during that time if requested.

Of course, individual donations are GREATLY appreciated and can be left at the donations boxes that will be spread around campus and in the Library all week.  If you would like a box for your classroom or building, please contact a Campus Co-Captain! Those wonderful people are:

  • Orange Park Campus: Andrew Macfarlane

  • Palatka Campus and Workforce Training Center: Victoria Morris, Kelly Lewis, and Heather Jones

  • St. Augustine Campus: Brenda Hoffman and Randi Gibson
