APRIL IS SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH (SAAM)

Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an effort organized by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.

Unveiling the MasksIn partnership with Green Dot at SJR State, the Library debuted an online exhibit entitled Unveiling the Masks (Please note: A trigger warning is posted on the first screen – you will not see the exhibit’s content until you click a link to proceed). This exhibit, organized by Green Dot, consists of a collection of masks made by survivors of sexual assault that reflect their experiences and each mask is accompanied by a brief narrative from the survivor.   

APRIL IS NATIONAL POETRY MONTH

This annual observance is organized by the Academy of American Poets.

Shelter in Poems: A Virtual Reading offered by the Academy of American Poets

April is National Poetry Month and this year the Academy of American Poets has created a theme/project called Shelter in Poems – “an initiative that invites poets and poetry lovers to share poems on social media that give them comfort or courage.”

They are closing out the month with a free online poetry reading with 20+ “poets laureate, actors, musicians, artists, and more” reading including Rita Dove and Dan Rather.

The event will be held on Thursday, April 30, 7:30 p.m. EDT. You must RSVP to access this free event.
