What is Reader's Advisory?
Readers' Advisory is a library service in which librarians help connect readers with books through direct or indirect means. So, whether you find a book using the resources on this guide or you stop in and talk to a librarian, you've participated in our readers' advisory services.
Books & Authors Database
For many people, finding a book that interests them can be time-consuming. Match their reading interests with Gale Books and Authors, a reader’s advisory database that makes finding a great read much less challenging. With fun ways to browse, an intuitive design, read-alikes, reviews, award winners and themed book lists, and more this resource answers the age-old question, “What do I read next?”
The Literature-Map is part of Gnod, the Global Network of Discovery. It is based on Gnooks, Gnod's literature recommendation system. The more people like an author and another author, the closer together these two authors will move on the Literature-Map.
WSIRN produces recommendations based purely on collective taste: when books are entered into the same favorites list, they become associated with each other. The more often particular items appear on different lists, the stronger that association becomes. Purely and simply, WSIRN represents mass opinion about books. For the technically minded, this is a collaborative filtering system, using our own bespoke algorithm called 'Incidence Bias Weighting' and partly using association rules.
