Hula Hoop Club By-Laws

We the students at St. John’s River State College, in order to promote hula hooping at the college, do hereby establish this constitution for our guidelines.

The official name of this organization shall be Hula Hoop Club. The official address is 5001 St. Johns Ave. Palatka, Fl. 32148.

The purpose of the club is to benefit participants mentally, emotionally and physically. Emphasis being on mental and emotional health. The hula hoop has been present in many ancient cultures like Greece and Egypt as a symbol, dance, and game. The Native Americans continue to dance the hoop dance here in North America. The way one moves through the hoop is how one works through their challenges in life and relates to their environment, according to Native American culture. The Hula Hoop Club strives to engage these cultural principles in furthering understanding of self, place, and time. Each meeting will start with a centering and breathing exercise with the hula hoop. We will learn new skills with the hula hoop and most importantly have fun!

The Hula Hoop Club will have a coordinator, co-coordinator, and faculty member present at every meeting. Membership is open to all currently enrolled students and faculty.

Officers shall be nominated at time of election. The term of each officer shall be one academic semester.  Each member shall have a vote.

The coordinator is responsible for organizing and presiding over every meeting and activity held by the group.
The co-coordinators are responsible for advertising activities and recruiting new members.
The faculty member is responsible for being present at each meeting and being supportive as a sponsor. The faculty member will discuss decisions made by the group and support the group in maintaining legal standing.
