2020 Women's Vote Centennial

"Men, their rights, and nothing more; Women, their rights, and nothing less."- Susan B. Anthony

The passage and ratification of the 19th Amendment was possible because local, state, and national organizations and activists fought together for change at every level of society and government. Today, local groups are banding together across the country to preserve local suffrage history and honor the ongoing work of women's equality. 

While states retained the ability to keep U.S. citizens from voting for other reasons, including race, the 19th Amendment was revolutionary and hard-won. The work of the Suffragettes demonstrates what people can do when they join together and fight for what's right. The SJR State library will honor that effort throughout 2020 by providing events that serve as opportunities to celebrate what was accomplished and reflect upon what still needs to be done to secure all citizens' right to vote.

2020 Women's Vote Centennial Initiative

The mission of the 2020 Women's Vote Centennial Initiative (WVCI) is to serve as a central organizing and information-sharing entity for programs, projects, and activities that commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, educate the public on the legal and social advances resulting from the amendment, and stimulate dialogue to address the ongoing fight for women's rights.
