Free Text to Speech Resources  

Need a screen reader? There are many free options.

Articles in the Library's databases are provided as HTML (web pages) and/or PDFs. The format of articles varies by database and publication. Both formats are compliant with with text-to-speech apps.

Read Aloud is a free "Chrome and Firefox extension that uses text-to-speech technology to convert webpage text to audio."  

The free Adobe Reader DC will read aloud PDF files:

  1. Open the PDF file in Adobe Reader DC.
  2. Go to the page you want read.
  3. From the View menu select READ OUT LOUD. Click ACTIVATE READ OUT LOUD.
  4. From the View menu select READ OUT LOUD. Click READ THIS PAGE ONLY (SHIFT + CTRL+ C is used to Pause/Resume).
